Who Attends Charis Center?
The Charis Center is designed to meet the needs of a variety of students. Some have been homeschooled for most, if not all, of their education, while others may have experienced difficulties navigating the academic constraints and social pressures of more traditional school settings including gifted students; Students with IEPs; Students who are disenfranchised; And GLBTQ students.
Charis Center provides each student with curricula and activities that are best suited to their individual learning profiles, interests, and academic goals. Incorporated into the curricula are programs addressing success planning for post-high school. Through time, patience, trust, and consistency students are provided with a safe space to build relationships that will assist them in making positive choices along their journey into adulthood.
The philosophy of the Charis Center is grounded in the concepts of peace, diversity, justice and sustainability, with the option of courses being integrated through the visual and performing arts. We recognize every student as gifted, and work to nurture those individual gifts. Great care is taken to develop courses and assignments that address the specific learning styles of each student, while also helping the students hone non dominant styles.
